Vertigo Entertainment is currently set to develop an American Death Note remake. The main character Light Yagami is said to be played by Zac Efron who stated in an interview that he is a manga/anime fan and has shown interest in the role.

I did like his performance in Miracle Run. I think he was very good at it. But then all this crazy HSM thing came along and Hairspraaay…well the thing is that now I see him as this singer who’s everywhere thanks to disney and, I’m sorry folks if this bothers you but heck, is my opinion and you have yours so:

i can see zac efron as light yagami, even though you can’t. people say that he can’t play light yagami just because he was in highschool musical. That doesn’t really mean anything. He can play light yagami if he tries hard, and i’m sure of it.

also I hope you understand that I did like Zac Efron in Miracle Run, he was brilliant, and I’s sure he had other movies where he was very good… But I just can’t see him in a more mature and serious role like Kira, maybe if he tries hard like you say. I just hope this death note movie, if it does happen, won’t end up a fiasco like that Dragon Ball Z movie that is coming soon.

I can see why they would want Zac Efron as Light. They look freakishly alike! But I also think they should find someone unknown to play Light that way all the crazy preppy girls aren’t going to see the movie just because Zac Efron is in it.

I just saw 17 Again(not because of Zac Efron) but Zac did a good job with the drama. I could see him playing good guy light but not the twisted version of Light.
I want him to play Kira because it will be hilarious. I have very low expectations for the movie anyway, but this will make it so bad it’s entertaining, instead of just painful.
